In this project, RPS customized a precision CNC-machined brake lever for a high-performance motorcycle manufacturer. As a critical control component of the motorcycle, the brake lever not only needs to possess excellent strength and lightweight properties but also requires meticulous ergonomic design and surface aesthetics. The customer imposed extremely high requirements on the part’s curve smoothness, dimensional accuracy, and final tactile feel.
Based on the detailed 3D model and technical specifications provided by the customer, we delivered a one-stop CNC machining solution, ensuring the final product met the standards of high-performance motorcycles both functionally and aesthetically.

Manufacturing Challenges & RPS Solutions

Material Selection & Performance Considerations

  • Challenge: The lever needs to withstand high stress while remaining lightweight to enhance vehicle handling.
  • 解決策: We selected 6061 aluminum alloy as the manufacturing material. This alloy features an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and good machinability, making it an ideal choice for manufacturing motorcycle parts. Through 精密CNC加工, we could ensure the structural integrity of the lever, thereby guaranteeing its reliability under extreme conditions such as emergency braking.

High-Precision CNC Machining & Complex 3D Curves

  • Challenge: The brake lever has complex streamlined 3D curves, requiring precise control of the machining path to ensure the lever’s tactile feel and grip comfort. Meanwhile, the mounting holes and connection parts on the lever demand strict dimensional accuracy to ensure perfect fit with the motorcycle’s body components.
  • 解決策: RPS utilized 5-axis CNC machining centers, which enabled one-time completion of machining for all complex curved surfaces of the part. We precisely controlled the tool path and cutting parameters to ensure every curve of the lever was smooth and natural, with no tool marks or uneven surfaces left behind. The positioning accuracy of all key holes was strictly controlled within 0.01mm to ensure ease and reliability of installation.

Surface Treatment & Aesthetic Requirements

  • Challenge: The lever’s surface needs to be smooth and wear-resistant to accommodate frequent gripping and use, while maintaining its metallic texture.
  • 解決策: After completing CNC machining, we performed meticulous surface treatment on the brake lever. Through precision sandblasting and cleaning processes, we removed all machining marks, giving the part surface a uniform and delicate matte metallic texture. This treatment not only enhanced the product’s visual appeal but also provided it with a favorable tactile feel and durability.

Outcomes & Value

Through RPS’s precision CNC machining services, we successfully manufactured this high-performance motorcycle brake lever for the customer. With its excellent dimensional accuracy, perfect ergonomic design, and exquisite surface treatment, the part perfectly met all the customer’s technical requirements in high-performance motorcycle manufacturing and received high praise from the customer.
