Customer Challenges

Our customer is a well-known high-performance computer hardware manufacturer. They needed a GPU panel with precision holes, durability, and an exquisite appearance. This panel serves not only as a key structural component of the GPU but also as a carrier for product aesthetics and brand identity.
The customer’s core pain points included:
  • Integrated machining of complex structures: The panel is covered with holes of various sizes and shapes, nut mounting points, and precise internal and external contours.
  • Balance between lightweight design and structural strength: The panel needs to be thin and light enough to reduce the overall weight of the GPU, while also having sufficient strength to protect internal components. A 1mm thick 6061 aluminum alloy was identified as the ideal material for this purpose.
  • Multi-functional surface finishing: The part requires a corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant surface. Meanwhile, it needs to present a high-end, unique visual effect through processes such as shot peening and anodizing.
  • Mass production with high quality: The customer required mass production of the panels, demanding perfect consistency in dimensions, hole positions, and appearance across all units.

To fully address the customer’s challenges, we provided a professional manufacturing solution: integrating multiple processes—including laser cutting, stamping, shot peening, anodizing, and silk screening—into an efficient production line.

Manufacturing Processes: Laser Cutting, Stamping & Welding

  • High-precision cutting and forming: First, we used a high-power laser cutting machine to perform precise contour and hole cutting on the 1mm thick 6061 aluminum plate. Laser cutting can complete various complex-shaped holes and contours with extremely high precision and speed, providing a reliable guarantee for subsequent assembly. At the same time, we combined precision stamping technology to efficiently form some regular holes.
  • Secure nut welding/riveting: To ensure the stable installation of nuts, we adopted resistance welding or riveting processes to firmly attach nuts to the aluminum plate. This provided reliable connection points for the subsequent installation of internal GPU components.

Surface Finishing: Shot Peening, Anodizing & Silk Screening

  • Shot peening process: After machining, we performed shot peening on the panel. This process creates fine indentations on the aluminum surface, giving it a unique matte texture while effectively enhancing its surface hardness and wear resistance.
  • Anodizing treatment: After shot peening, we conducted anodizing treatment. This step forms a dense, hard oxide film on the aluminum surface. Anodizing not only significantly improves the part’s corrosion resistance and wear resistance but also enables various color effects (such as the black color required by the customer) through the addition of dyes.
  • Clear silk-screened markings: Finally, we used precision silk screening technology to print clear, long-lasting brand logos and text on the anodized surface. The silk-screen ink adheres firmly to the hard oxide film, ensuring the markings remain clearly visible even after long-term use.
