This case demonstrates RPS’s customization of precision CNC-machined carbon steel parts for an industrial equipment manufacturer. These parts serve as critical mechanical structural components, used to connect or support other parts in the equipment. Due to the need to withstand large loads and external impacts, the customer chose carbon steel—known for its excellent strength and toughness—as the material.
Leveraging our extensive experience in carbon steel processing and complex structural component manufacturing, we provided the customer with a complete solution ranging from raw material processing to precision machining and subsequent surface treatment. This ensured the final products maintained stable and reliable performance even under harsh conditions.

Manufacturing Challenges & RPS Solutions

Material Selection & Machining Characteristics

  • Challenge: Carbon steel has relatively high strength and hardness, which tends to generate large cutting forces during the machining process. Improper control of machining parameters may lead to rapid tool wear, compromising machining precision and efficiency.
  • Solution: Based on the properties of carbon steel, we selected specialized high-speed steel (HSS) or cemented carbide tools, and optimized the cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut. Meanwhile, we used high-efficiency cutting fluid to reduce the temperature in the cutting area—effectively extending tool life and ensuring the stability of the machining process and the surface quality of the parts.

Precision CNC Machining & Complex Geometric Shapes

  • Challenge: The parts feature complex geometric shapes, including precision threaded holes and multiple holes of varying sizes. Their dimensional tolerance requirements are extremely strict to ensure perfect fit and assembly with other parts in the equipment.
  • Solution: RPS utilized high-precision CNC machining centers, enabling precise control of every link in the machining process. Through precision programming and multi-axis linkage technology, we achieved accurate cutting of all complex features of the parts. All key dimensions underwent strict quality control and 3D measurement, ensuring tolerances were controlled within 0.01mm or even higher precision to meet the customer’s strict requirements.

Surface Treatment & Corrosion Protection

  • Challenge: Carbon steel is prone to rust and requires effective anti-corrosion treatment, while also needing an attractive appearance.
  • Solution: After completing CNC machining, we performed professional surface treatment on the parts. For parts requiring high wear resistance and corrosion resistance, we provided electroplating or black oxide treatment. These treatments not only effectively prevent the parts from rusting but also enhance their surface hardness and aesthetic appeal.

Outcomes & Value

Through RPS’s precision CNC machining services, we successfully manufactured this batch of high-performance carbon steel parts for the customer. With their excellent dimensional accuracy, outstanding structural strength, and reliable anti-corrosion performance, these parts perfectly met all the customer’s technical requirements in high-end equipment manufacturing and received high praise from the customer.
